CASTELLO EUFEMIO
“An ancient, primitive fortalice, not at all despicable castle”, is how the Arab geographer Edrisi defined it in the XII century. Its name possibly comes from the original owner Eufemio. Built above a pre-existing structure it was the seat of the governor of the King, home to the nobles of the city and from the XVII century, when it was renovated it was a prison. It has an irregular layout, with an internal courtyard. It was protected on three sides by a wall and has quadrangular towers. Due to its high position, it was for many years, an impenetrable fortress and gave security to its inhabitants.
