CHIESA E MONASTERO DI SAN MICHELE
The monastic complex, of ancient Norman origin dating back to Giorgio Antiochia, admiral of Ruggero II, was entirely rebuilt between 1627 and 1678; The robust bell tower which closes off the front of the monastery on the square is from 1771. The sober structure of the church in late sixteenth century form, decorated with statues in stuccoed stone by Alberto Orlando (1702), is contrasted with the lavish rococo interior with a single nave, characterised by stuccoes by Bartolomeo Sanseverino and a large fresco of the vault of Tommaso Sciacca, depicting Trionfo di San Michele su Lucifero - Triumph of Saint Michael over Lucifer.
